Common questions
Where is my journal data stored?
SelfCairn stores journal entries, check-ins, therapy notes, medication logs, time capsules, and settings locally on your device. It has no account, backend, or cross-device journal sync. Apple device backups may include the app’s data according to your backup settings.
How do I create and restore a JSON backup?
Open Your space from the person button at the top right of Now or Timeline. Under Export & backup, choose Back up now, then Share / save to Files… and select a destination such as Files or iCloud Drive. To restore, return to Export & backup, choose Restore from a backup…, and select the SelfCairn JSON file. Keep the file somewhere you control before relying on it as a backup.
How do I move my journal to another device?
SelfCairn does not sync journals between devices. On the old device, create a full JSON backup and save or transfer that file to a destination available on the new device. On the new device, open Your space, choose Restore from a backup…, and select the file. Keep the original backup until you have confirmed the restored entries.
Why is dictation unavailable?
SelfCairn starts dictation only when your device and current language support on-device speech recognition. Check microphone and Speech Recognition permissions for SelfCairn in iOS Settings. If either permission is denied, or on-device recognition is unavailable, you can still type; SelfCairn never falls back to server transcription.
How do I enable or troubleshoot notifications?
Medication reminders are enabled by setting a Reminder time on an active medication. Time-capsule notifications are scheduled when you seal a capsule. If they do not arrive, allow notifications for SelfCairn in iOS Settings and confirm the medication is not paused or archived. These are local notifications; the app does not send your content to a notification server.
How do I enable or disable Therapy and Medication?
Open Your space. Turn I’m in therapy on or off to show or hide the Therapy space, and turn I take medication on or off to show or hide the Medication space. Both are optional.
Does SelfCairn score or interpret what I write?
No. SelfCairn has no scores, streaks, diagnoses, or automated psychological interpretations. Check-ins and prompts are optional tools for your own reflection.
What happens if I delete SelfCairn?
Deleting the app removes its local data from that device. SelfCairn has no server copy that can restore it. A JSON file you exported or an Apple device backup may remain in its separate destination until you delete it there, and may be used for recovery if available.
How does the one-time support purchase work?
Open Your space and choose Support SelfCairn. The purchase is optional, processed by Apple, and is not a subscription. Nothing is paywalled or unlocked by paying. The Restore button asks Apple to refresh eligible support purchases associated with the Apple account currently signed in; if one is missing, confirm that you are using the same Apple account.
Is SelfCairn medical or crisis support?
No. SelfCairn is not a medical device, therapist, diagnostic service, or crisis service. If you are in danger or crisis, contact local emergency services or an appropriate crisis resource.
